Your editor is usually slow to anger, but every time I open the morning paper at the moment I end up seeing red. I can see this weekly rant become a regular fixture!

I mean seriously folks are they kidding?!

“Kurkova, 24, is best known for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel whose superfit physique has graced the pages of fashion magazines around the world. But her recent chunkier appearance at the Cia Maritima show during Sao Paulo Fashion Week had fashion critics up in arms. An article in a Brazilian paper about the leggy 5′11″ Karolina described how “shocked” the audience was when she appeared looking uncharacteristically chubby with “cellulite on her butt.” ”

It really disgusts me that some members of the media and their publications choose to encourage this mythical ideology of what beauty is. In many ways they are directly responsible for eating disorders and psychological compulsions in young women. For f*cks sake…

On the other hand, as the quoted article above goes on to discuss, “she’s a highly compensated model whose job is to look great all the time.” Do my 21CP readers think that all models should therefore maintain an ultra lean and toned appearance, however unnatural and even unrealistic?

Jodie Kidd Dropped by Agency for ‘Piling on the Pounds’

Now, it would be one thing to drop her for the whole flogging coke fiasco (despite Kate getting away with it!), but their official reason is that she hasn’t been looking after herself and has put on excessive weight from too much junk food. They went as far as saying it has been ‘almost impossible’ to get her any work! You would think the woman was morbidly obese the way they are harping on about it.

Either there is another reason for dropping her that they aren’t admitting, or they are f*cking idiots. Actually, they’re probably idiots either way…

Please Note: I am not ‘against’ naturally lean and skinny people. What I am against is the glamourising of extreme and unhealthy lifestyles and weightloss, and the belief that this is the only body type that can be attractive or desireable.

Other gripes include:

- Men telling women to ’stop whining on’ about unequal pay. I have a feeling they would be doing a fair bit of ‘whining’ if the shoe was on the other foot!

- the ignorant little thugs walking the streets of the UK that are arrogant enough to think that they have the right to decide who should live and who should die, based on their infantile whims and a knife in their hand. Something needs to be done, and done now - the people supposedly running the UK need to grow a pair!

I am sure I was angry about a few other things, but I’ve now had a nice muffin and a bubble bath and the red mist is clearing. Ahhhh…

Oooh it’s a tricky one this year. We can’t make our minds up on who will win best debut, but if we had to make a prediction, it would be a toss-up between Fanny Tastic, Ruby Valentine, even Lola. But that said - Perle Noir is hungry for victory, and one of the less well known entries could easily snatch the title. We would love to see Indigo recognised in the duo category, and although there are some very strong entries in the troupe contest, after seeing Foxy Tann at Koko a little while ago, we
would love to see her and the Wham Bam Thankyou Ma’ams’ triumph. As for the great title itself…how can we call this one? Again, if we HAD to stick our neck out, we’d bet on Amber or Angie. But, having the soft spot that we do for Murasaki Babydoll, we would be so delighted if Violet Eva somehow managed to trump the titans. Good luck to all!

I don’t usually get all excited about these sorts of TV shows - I’ll pick a favourite and if they win, then that’s great.

But I’d Do Anything, the BBC show on a quest to find a woman to play Nancy in the new production of Oliver, has a clear outstanding winner in my eyes, and it will be a travesty if she does not triumph in the final tonight.

She has everything required for this role, and the journey she has made to reach this point in her life makes her all the more worthy and inspiring.

So please vote for Jodie Prenger and make her dream come true - 21CP plans to be in the front row!

‘Where is our May Issue?!’ I hear you wail.

I can promise you that it will be out this week, but we have delayed its launch for a couple of reasons…

- firstly, it’s a biggie. A serious uber-edition. Don’t say I don’t spoil you…

- the site is undergoing some serious ‘pimpage’ behind the scenes, with some big announcements and new pages, which we think are worth the wait, so bear with us a little longer!
